Short answer
Typical 2026 ranges: crack injection $300-$1,500 per crack, sump pump replacement $400-$1,200, a new sump pit and pump $800-$2,500, a battery backup $600-$1,600, interior drain tile $40-$120 per linear foot, and exterior waterproofing $6,000-$25,000. Construction wages in the Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson area run slightly above the national average, so expect quotes across these ranges.
Typical ranges by fix
| Fix | Typical cost | Usually for |
|---|---|---|
| Downspout extensions and regrading | Low (often DIY) | Water after storms near one corner |

| Sump pump repair | about $75-$550 | Stuck floats, check valves, clogs |
| Sump pump replacement (existing pit) | $400-$1,200 | Old or failed pumps |
| New sump pit and pump | $800-$2,500 | Basements with no pit, or a crock that’s too small |
| Battery backup sump pump | $600-$1,600 | Storm outages, long spring run times |
| Interior drain tile | $40-$120 per linear foot | Water at the floor-wall joint or through the floor |
| Carbon fiber straps | $350-$1,000 per strap | Block walls with limited bowing |
| Wall anchors | $400-$700 per anchor | Bowing walls with yard access |
| Yard French drain | $10-$50 per linear foot | Surface runoff toward the house |
| Exterior waterproofing | $6,000-$25,000 per project | Wet wall faces, walls needing outside repair |

A worked example on Anderson ground
As an illustration, take a house built in 1961, Anderson’s median year (U.S. Census ACS 2024), with a 1,000-square-foot block basement and about 128 feet of perimeter wall. That size is an assumption for the example, not a local statistic. Water seeps in along all four walls each spring and through two floor cracks, and there’s no sump pit. This is the common Anderson pattern of water from below.
| Item | Low | High |
|---|---|---|
| Interior drain tile, 128 ft × $40-$120 | $5,120 | $15,360 |
| New sump pit and pump | $800 | $2,500 |
| Battery backup | $600 | $1,600 |
| Estimated total | $6,520 | $19,460 |
What moves this house up or down the range:
- Under-slab drain lines. If water rises through the middle of the floor, extra lines under the slab add to the cost. On very wet soils they’re more often needed.
- Hollow block walls need weep holes and a membrane, usually included in the per-foot price.
- An existing pit in good shape takes most of the pit line off.
- Finished walls and flooring along the perimeter add removal and rebuild costs.
- A bowing wall adds reinforcement. See bowing walls.
What quotes often leave out
- Moving belongings away from the walls
- Removing and replacing finished walls and floors
- A new electrical circuit for the sump
- Permits
- Downspout and grading work
- Rerouting a discharge that currently goes into a floor drain or the sewer

Where these prices come from
Each range combines established U.S. cost guides. Where they disagree, the range spans them. Construction wages in the Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson metro averaged $67,070 a year in May 2025, slightly above the national $65,360 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), so national ranges are a fair guide here.

Spend in the right order
- Fix roof water and grading. See yard drainage.
- Find where water actually enters. See the problem guides.
- Fix the source: drainage for water from below, injection for a leaking crack, reinforcement for a moving wall.
- Add a backup and an alarm to any sump system.
